I am not implying I am perfect, but I *am* directly saying one of my biggest grievances with Student Politics is this exact and purposeful lack of self awareness compiled on top of a likely lack of education.
While I do mean this in a broader sense (and I will get back to that) I also specifically mean within the boundaries of Australia. Two of my all-time favourite topics to yap about are the 75% of our adult population that is (functionally) illiterate and the Well Kept Secrets of the HellScape that is Tertiary Education on this island; the scariest White Academic Gatekept HorrorShow you will ever witness! If you let me go on long enough uninterrupted I will reach a natural yap progression about two more of my all-time favourite topics:
Every Single Thing Ever ! That makes you unhappy or uncomfortable can be traced back to Capitalism and/or Neocolonialism!
Generally that latter one gets me looks like I’m wearing a tinfoil hat – but, it’s true and you could literally throw anything at me and I could create a flowchart back to the origin of one or both being the source of your unhappiness.

What are your neighbours names?
I am not going to dox my neighbours, they wouldn’t like it; I know their names, though.
If you needed me to tell you for a legitimate reason; I know the amount of people within each household on my street, I know their basic information, and what assistance they would require (if any) in the case of an emergency or natural disaster. I’m fairly certain they know at least the same about me as the other week a lady knocked on my door and told me she was sorry if she had been mislead but some of my neighbours had told her I was the best door to be knocking on for the task she was enquiring for help with.
She had not been mislead.
If you do not know these things about your own neighbours as the bare minimum:
You do not have the right to be calling for and demanding revolution!
If you read through the screenshots way back at the beginning of this post, you will be able to see one of my recent conversations about the topic. If you’re not a stickybeak or you like to just stick the words of my blog posts, not the bonus extras, Casey is also a relevant example to keep in mind for context throughout the next little chunk of reading.
I have recently been witnessing a rise in the amount of people from varied political backgrounds demanding quiet and well behaved acts of protest that contain zero violence or disruption when demanding change.
While I understand these feelings probably stem from the current chaos and fear triggered by global conflicts and tensions interacting with people’s overall general desire to feel safe and secure. It is important to note that even though there is a rightful place for these types of actions + tactics , which *can* be extremely impactful with the correct utilisation, nothing is going to get done while everyone is sitting in candle-lit circles singing Kumbaya.
Take this recent media shit-storm that went international for our example!
Last week Sovereign Gunnai, Gunditjmara, Djab Wurrung Woman & Australian Independent Senator, Lidia Thorpe, interrupted a visit from British Monarch King Charles III to remind him of the blood on his hands. She was swiftly removed and a lot of people had a lot of things to say.
Myself Included, here are 4 Tweets I made + a meme on the topic:

I wholeheartedly support her actions and if I didn’t it is not my place to speak publicly down on another First Nations woman. Some of the biggest complaints (of many) was that she should have approached the topic with a quiet, perhaps private, conversation or that she was a hysteric and deluded lady speaking only on behalf of herself.
Ignoring the fact she attempted the peaceful avenue and was fobbed off by both King and PM these 2 succinct tweet sums up my problems with those critiques faster than I would have:
I am not trying to be questioned about my whereabouts on January 6th 2021, but think about this next time you’re debating whether or not a public figure with your human rights within reach of their control deserves an egg cracked on their head or an angry Blak lady ruining his ceremony.
There is often history to these actions that clarify them from obscure isolated tantrums into visible, rarely unjustified and regularly goal achieving political tactics. Student boosted or created political movements are often guilty of adding to this ridiculous, counterproductive pressure for exclusively peaceful resistance that ultimately ends up damaging the causes they are fighting for.
It is about time we start reminding governments they work for us – NOT the other way around.
Not to be boomer but this is where the second part of our title is coming into action- hooray!
I wholeheartedly believe that performative action designed to be postable on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram have not only diluted left-wing politics into something essentially centrist and stagnant, but also made it far easier for people in power to continue on their Divide and Conquer abolition of the lower class.
Let’s quickly recap what we have already established and send you off to take a moment for a stretch, a snack, a cup of water or bathroom break before we unpack that bold and controversial statement, though.
Everything Lily Has Been Mad About This Week (so far):
- Individualism (is a disease)!
- Ignorance and Underecuation are fatal virtues (and just really fucking annoying socially)!
- Everything is political (and worsened by Capitalism + Neocolonialism)!
- First Nations Women Will Never Get Anything Right In The Eyes Of The Media- so why not fuck shit up anyway (or the white man)?
- There *is* time & place for violent revolt and genocidal authority absolutely hits the requirement targets (there is an exception to every rule- even “keeping our hands and feet to ourselves”)!
